My name is Sam Curwen and I was a pupil at Downham Preparatory from 2006 up until I left in 2012. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school and I can reminisce on many happy memories. Some of my highlights that I still remember to this day are: the summer fair, sports day (especially the tug of war), playing rugby after school and badminton on a Friday after school. One thing I can most certainly say is that Downham gave me a really good start and got me to a stage where I enjoyed learning and being at school.
Since leaving Downham; I joined Millfield with an academic scholarship and continued playing rugby for the school team. I was in the top sets all the way from year four to year 8. After this I left the lower school and joined the senior school. I really enjoyed my time in year 9 and as well as my rugby I picked up athletics. I decided I wanted to throw the javelin; since then, I have done well in several competitions at a county, regional and national level. Through all of this I was still playing rugby and in year 10 I was scouted and invited to join Bath academy. I still represent them regularly and really enjoy it.
I am in no doubt that my start at Downham Prep set me up for all the great things I have achieved since and anything that is still to come. I will always remember my time at Downham as I have many fond memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who helped and supported me in my time at Downham and I’m sure all the staff will continue to have a positive effect on many children’s lives in time to come.
